Oudemansiella canarii is a basidiomycete fungus striking for its pure white color and extremely slimy or glutinous cap. The cap (pileus) is initially convex and later flattens, reaching 3 to 10 cm in diameter; its surface is smooth, white, and covered by a thick layer of transparent mucus that gives it a shiny, wet appearance. The gills (lamellae) are white, widely spaced, and adnate. The stalk (stipe) is central, cylindrical, firm, and the same color as the cap, often with a slightly enlarged base. It is a saprophytic fungus that grows on logs and fallen branches of soft-wood trees. Its delicate, porcelain-like appearance makes it one of the most aesthetic fungi in American tropical rainforests.

It inhabits wet and very wet tropical rainforests, from sea level to middle elevations. It is found exclusively growing on dead wood (logs, branches, and stumps) of soft-wood trees in the process of decomposition. It prefers shaded microclimates with very high ambient humidity. In Costa Rica, it is a common fungus on both slopes during the rainy season, especially in well-conserved primary and secondary forest areas.
