Costa Rica Species

With just 0.03% of the Earth's land surface, Costa Rica is home to more than 6% of the planet's biodiversity. In the full depth of the Anthropocene — as the world has prioritized resource use for material development and wealth generation — Costa Rica proposes a different paradigm: one of reforestation, protection, sustainability, and development in harmony with nature.

We believe in a model where human progress and the pursuit of happiness go hand in hand with the health and respect for the ecosystem.

This project is our love letter to the Earth — the only home we have ever known.

We have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to document every living species in Costa Rica — at least from the animal, plant, and fungi kingdoms — creating a free, open, and taxonomically rigorous scientific database.

We know this is an endless task, and that is precisely why we are betting on a collaborative system. We are guided by the theory of infinite games: a model where the goal is not to "win," but to invite more people to participate so that the process of learning and conservation never ends.
